published in 1997. Having read several drafts of all the& R9 X& _7 j; ~$ }& e+ [, J1 d+ ]7 i
chapters in Viral Pathogenesis, it was clear that the large
. M' e( Y a0 }! @book contained a wealth of information, but that it was
( _" L; ]/ h# e' e- j0 b# c, yunsuited for readers who desired an introduction to the

( ]6 t; }* X8 O7 t OAn introductory text clearly benefits from the0 ]5 f8 R3 t ~+ p0 x4 Q
coherence provided by a single author, but suffers from

compromise was devised, in which each chapter was coauthored. p3 l9 f, j8 }3 H/ M* f* N7 r
by an expert in the specific area under consideration." w" `) b3 ^; u0 H' x) w
This strategy was facilitated by the successful

preparation of Viral Pathogenesis. The text includes; b9 J5 X! l; z3 @& u1 S- C+ X: X& |
